I believe very strongly in the Union. I also understand that being part of the Union means that negotiations are the name of the game. I can’t promise you the moon but I can promise to represent your needs.
As a member of the Biology Department one of my main focuses will be to address the equity issues surrounding the lecture/lab loading/pay rate. Faculty who teach labs/activities are in the classroom up to 30% more than other faculty on campus. Addressing those equity issues will help to get more representation from those Departments who struggle to find the time to participate in the governance process.
I also believe very strongly in the rights of part-time faculty. When we had to move to online teaching, I offered to write the online labs for our adjuncts to reduce their workload, especially, since they weren’t getting paid for that work.
