Beth Ervin
Faculty Colleagues - My name is Beth Ervin, and I have been a member of the Sierra College community for over 20 years. I have had the honor to serve alongside you at Sierra as a part-time and full-time faculty member, a faculty coordinator, a Student Services administrator, and an Academic Senator/Secretary. Today I am seeking your support for my candidacy for SCFA President. As your SCFA President, my role would be to listen, communicate, and create opportunities for counseling, library, campus life, athletic coaching, and instructional faculty to engage with one another and discuss working conditions from each of our unique and shared perspectives. I would also connect faculty with resources and foster effective relationships with local, state, and national organizations. I am asking for your vote for SCFA President. I am grateful to work with you and would be honored to serve the Sierra community in this role. |
Vicki Day
As a part-time and full-time faculty member, I have experienced decline of administrator support and the challenges of “Work Creep” faced by all faculty. Our part-time faculty face many challenges, including inadequate healthcare and concerns over job security that are exacerbated by low enrollment. I want to advocate for positive change, as I did when I fought for same sex health insurance in the early 1990’s. I am also cognizant of the challenges that come with assuming a new leadership role. As a former academic senator, club advisor, and trustee to CCBET for the past 20 years, I understand the importance of seeking out resources and not reinventing the wheel. For this reason, I will be pulling in former union representatives, CTA, CCA, NEA and any union member I can draw on to guide me through researching budgets and laws, leveraging their expertise to ensure effective governance. |

Jason Sumi
My name is Jason and I am a full-time faculty member in the Counseling Department with 8 years of experience at Sierra College. As the 2022-2024 SCFA Secretary, several highlights of my service included: manual transcriptions of meeting minutes and discussions, submitting minutes for uploading within one week after council and/or board approval, council and executive member administrative support, writing newsletter articles, serving as a delegate for a Community College Association conference, and assisting with SCFA membership and outreach efforts. If re-elected as SCFA Secretary for the 2024-2026 term, I plan to continue these efforts and share more information beneficial to all faculty employees. Thank you for your consideration. Treasurer

Ralph McGill
Greetings SCFA members, My name is Ralph McGill, and I am running for re-election to the position of Treasurer. While serving in this role over the past two years I have kept SCFA fiscally responsible while still meeting our goal of member/new member outreach programs. During this next term my goal is to transition our resources to a community based financial institution while increasing our assets through a better return on our accounts. By doing so SCFA will not only support the local economy, this move will also help maintain our long-term solvency thus allowing us to be better prepared for future and unforeseen expenses. Jay Hester
I was hired to teach U.S. History full-time in 2006. I have served as Academic Senate President, SCFA President, and interim Dean of the Business and Technology Division, and department chair during my almost 18 years at the college. Through my years serving on the SCFA Board, many of my efforts focused on issues of equity both as president and in my role as dispute resolution officer. Lastly, I have served on the Equal Employment Advisory Committee for 11 years and as an EEO on hiring committees for 14 years in addition to working as part of the New Legacy Committee in previous years. I would like to continue my work as the Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice Director through ongoing conversations with faculty relative to these interests and how we can prioritize them while also best representing both full and part-time faculty effectively. |

Diana Higashi-Ybarra
Hi Sierra Family! I have been a member of the Sierra College community for 24 years, 14 years as part-time and 10 years as the sole full-time instructor and department chair in the Fashion Industries program. I am also part of our CTE programs, serve on the EEO Advisory committee and I’m an EEO and committee member on hiring committees each semester. Each of these roles help me to stay connected to our campus community. I am currently fishing up my second term as the SCFA rep for the VAPA interest area, my second year as Dispute Resolutions Officer, and my third year as part of the negotiations team. I have learned so much in that time and I would welcome the opportunity to continue representing our faculty. Thank you in advance for your consideration. |

Dearest Colleagues, My name is Angelina Rivers. In the Applied Art and Design department, I teach video production, filmmaking, and visual communication. Additionally, it has been my honor to serve as your President of SCFA for the past two years. Due to the needs and demands of my department and curriculum, I am not running for the President position again. However, I would like to continue to be active in Union Leadership as a Representative Council member. I have a tremendous amount of respect for our campus community. Dominic Calabrese
It would be a privilege to represent full and part-time faculty in teaching, counseling, coaching, and library roles. I am committed to advocating for our faculty. During my 25 years at Sierra College, I have been involved with ASCCC and I have served on our Senate and several of its standing committees. I have successfully advocated to prevent our administration from initiating course cap changes, and I have successfully advocated for faculty to have the choice to offer classes online “in emergency circumstances only.” I understand the challenges we face in our working conditions including job creep and job security for part-time faculty. I have a passion for ensuring fair treatment and equitable working conditions and I will advocate tirelessly for fair treatment and equitable policies.
